How to Stand Out as a Service Provider

Are you blending in with other service providers, or are you ready to stand out? In a competitive market, your unique selling point (USP) is what draws clients to you instead of the competition. In this post, I share actionable ways beauty and wellness professionals can create a USP (from specializing in a niche, to enhancing the customer experience) so you can build a thriving business, attract loyal clients, and increase your pricing power.

Are you trying to be like the other service providers in your area, or are you trying to stand out? Whether it's your services or your social media approach, I believe that setting ourselves apart puts us at an advantage. I'm Tiffany Nodolny, your host of the Spa Business Building Podcast.

I'm a licensed esthetician, massage therapist, and solopreneur in my day spa. With nearly two decades of experience in the beauty and wellness industry, I've learned a few things about building a career and maintaining longevity. Outside of the treatment room, I'm a wife, mom, to the human and fluffy kind, plant enthusiast, and book lover.

Join me while I share my experiences and insight on attracting clients, maintaining and building a thriving business while achieving work-life balance. So whether you're a new solo spa boss or seasoned, this podcast is for you. Today's business tip is how to create a USP or unique selling point for your business.

A USP is what makes you different because it's your unique value proposition that attracts clients. But why does it even matter if you have a USP for your business? A unique selling point sets you apart from your competitors, think about it like this.

Why should someone choose your services versus someone else's services? It's because you offer uniqueness or you offer XYZ service and they do not. Sharing that uniqueness attracts clients who are seeking that service or who resonate with what makes you unique.

It also helps you to build your brand because it becomes what you are known for. It also helps you increase your pricing power. So when clients can only receive what you offer from your business, you can charge premium prices and people are willing to pay for exclusivity.

It also enhances your reputation by reinforcing your brand image and establishing credibility and trust with your audience. By having a USP or a unique selling point, you can create more engaging content that stands out on social media because of the uniqueness. You'll want to highlight whatever it is that makes you stand out, and you can direct your marketing efforts to the audience that your uniqueness resonates with.

Now, you're probably wondering how you can create a USP in your business, and I've come up with a few ways that beauty and wellness professionals can stand out. Number one, specialization. So being niche or niche, however you say it specific.

For example, you only offer bridal makeup or men's cuts, or maybe you are an acne specialist or you are a myofascial release expert. So that is one way. Another way is in your expertise.

Your advanced trainings and certificates that you hold can be your unique selling point. Maybe it's your years of experience in the industry that sets you apart. Another way to stand out is through product line.

You can offer an exclusive line or high quality products that no one else in your area offers. Now, I used to offer farmhouse fresh products, and no one else in my area was offering their products or services, so that helped me to stand out. People sought out those products from me.

Another way to stand out is through the customer experience. So you could try offering extras or complimentary add-ons that others charge for or don't offer at all. So all of my services include hot towels, hot stones, aromatherapy, and product samples for first-time facial clients.

So when I go get services from other providers in the area, I am not receiving any of those. So I know that when I offer them in my business, that I am standing out because I do not charge extra, but I do charge more for my services versus others in the area because I have the expertise and I have this customer experience. Another way that you can stand out is through sustainability.

So maybe your business has an emphasis on eco-friendly products, services, or maybe it's like in your cleaning efforts. But you could be known for like being organic or carrying natural products, or maybe you're a green business. So I don't want to get into like natural products, clean products versus whatever you believe it's gimmicky or not.

But people seek out those products and services, and you can be known for sustainability. Another way to stand out online is through technology. So by incorporating innovative technology or equipment and tools into your business, it can help you stand out from those that don't.

So there's a chiropractor in my area who is known for his like spine scanner. I'm not really sure what it's officially called. But the fact is that he doesn't do the popping, snapping, twisting, cracking to get the results.

He uses this machine. So people seek him out for his services. And I actually go to this clinic because I don't like to feel like the popping, snapping, cracking, and the machine, it really helps.

So that's how he stands out. And he has ads and commercials that highlight this in his business. So creating that unique selling point for your business can help you stand out.

It can help you build trust. It can help you attract more clients. Now, I hope that you found value in this episode.
