3 Ways to Build Your Email List

If you’re a solo spa owner relying only on social media to attract clients, you’re missing out on a powerful marketing tool: building an email lists. In this episode of the Spa Business Building Podcast, I share three simple and effective ways to grow your email list, nurture relationships, and turn followers into loyal, paying clients.

If you are not using email to collect information and build relationships to convert followers into clients, you are missing out. Having an email system is pretty much your golden ticket to converting your followers into clients. And if you are not collecting email information from potential clients, you are seriously missing out.

I'm Tiffany Nadolny, your host of the Spa Business Building Podcast. I'm a licensed esthetician, massage therapist, and solopreneur in my day spa. With nearly two decades of experience in the beauty and wellness industry, I've learned a few things about building a career and maintaining longevity.

Outside of the treatment room, I'm a wife, mom, to the human and fluffy kind, plant enthusiast and book lover. Join me while I share my experiences and insight on attracting clients, maintaining and building a thriving business while achieving work-life balance. So whether you're a new solo spa boss or seasoned, this podcast is for you.

Now I have a past episode where I talk all about that, but I will dive a little bit into it. Here's why it's important to gather email from potential clients. I feel like most small businesses, especially solo beauty and wellness professionals, are only utilizing social media as their marketing, and their strategies are pretty weak.

Because if you have that as your only strategy, you're missing out because we do not own social media. And if it shuts down, we have no other way of contacting those potential clients. So when you are gathering that contact information, that email information, and you're able to continue to contact and kind of nurture and build that relationship through email sending, you can establish trust and convert those potential clients into actual paying clients.

But here are three ways that you can make it fun to gather emails from potential customers and nurture that relationship by continuously sending them emails. So the first way is having quizzes. Now, you can put this on your website, or you can create a quiz and pop the link in your link in bio and promote this fun quiz so people will sign up for.

Because who doesn't love a good quiz? Do you remember getting magazines in like 17 and, you know, I don't even remember the names anymore. It's been so long since I had a magazine, but I loved doing those quizzes.

And I think if you are kind of in that, you know, attracting people who are from that genre where they got the magazines with the quizzes, I mean, who doesn't love a quiz? People will flock to do a good quiz where they will receive valuable information. Now, don't just create a quiz.

That's just a quiz for whatever. People want valuable information from that. And when you're able to provide that valuable content by taking a quiz because it's fun, you can collect their emails.

And here's how you do that the right way. You want to choose the right quiz topic. Now, how do you know what to choose?

Think of the top burning questions that your clients have or questions that they've asked or things that have come up. So maybe you're an esthetician. You could do a quiz on discover your perfect skincare routine.

Or maybe you're a massage therapist that incorporates stretches. Maybe you could do a quiz on the right stretches for back pain or something like that. Another way is to create compelling quiz results.

So using or offering those personalized recommendations based on the quiz answers. This adds value and encourages sign up. So like I said, someone may not want to take a quiz just because it's a quiz, but if they can find out something about their solution or about themselves, then they are more likely to sign up.

So that is my tip number one, offering a quiz. And I will make sure that I put some platforms that create quizzes for you in the show notes to make it easy. Number two, have website pop-ups.

So if you have a website, if you've built your own website or you've had someone that has built your website, make sure that you are grabbing that information in a pop-up or there are, if you have a platform like Massage Book or Vigaro, they may have a place that may not be a pop-up. So you know when you go to a website and then something pops up and it offers you some sort of incentive to grab your email information, that's what a pop-up is. It goes on a website.

So if you've built your own website, add this feature to it or some like Massage Book, they may not have that option. And this is why I really like building your own website. So you have that feature.

But basically, a website pop-ups, when done the right way, they can really be a powerful tool for growing your email list. And this is how it's done. So a pop-up, you want to offer some sort of incentive that provides them value.

Sometimes it can be an exclusive offer, maybe a discount, first time guest offer, complimentary upgrade, free consultation, anything that can provide value that you know your clients or potential clients will really want. How do you know what they want? Ask them, do a survey, post it on a story and see what they say, what they would find value in.

But that's your irresistible offer incentive. Now, when it comes to the pop-up, the timing is everything. You don't want to just pop up right away.

I find that waiting about 10 seconds in once a visitor has visited your website is a good time for it to appear. Otherwise, it's just kind of too in your face, and people don't really like that. You also want to make sure that you're keeping it simple.

The pop-up should be clear and easy to understand. You want to avoid overwhelming your visitors with too much information. So keep it simple, keep it clear, don't overwhelm them.

So my number three strategy for collecting emails is paid ads. You want targeted leads and offers. So you can do Google ads, you can do Facebook or Instagram ads, but paid advertising can be highly effective because it helps you grow your email list by targeting your ideal audience.

And you can deliver those compelling offers that capture valuable information from them. So when you know who your ideal client is, you know what kind of offers they want, what they find value in. So when you are paying for an ad to go out to run ads, you want to use that compelling offer and incentives.

So when you're doing this, you want to make sure that you define your target audience, clearly identify who you want to reach. And that's where the value is. When it comes to paid ads, you're able to target exactly who you want within a radius of your establishment, your ideal client, your ideal target audience, the age range, whatever their interests are, you can really hone in on that and it's going to show those offers to your ideal client.

And that's why I really love paid ads. You want to create an irresistible offer, like I said, providing them with value. What do they want from you?

That's what you're going to offer them. But you also want to track and optimize. So you want to monitor your ad performance and make adjustments as needed to maximize your return on investment.

So if you're putting, you're paying for these ads and you're not seeing any return, then you need to make an adjustment on maybe what the offer is. Are you too vague on who you're marketing to? Those types of things.

Now, when it comes to knowing how much, when it comes to like, and Google and Meta ads are pretty similar, the more that you're able to spend, the bigger reach that you can get. But as a Solo Spa Boss, I mean, we don't have a ton of money. So start with five, six dollars a day, whatever their minimum is.

I usually do like five dollars a day on Facebook or Instagram, and I run it for about a month. But you can also do like testing. I believe like Google Ads has testing so you can run.

I think Facebook does too. It's been a while since I've done an ad, obviously. But you can do like testing so you can create multiple offers and run it to different target audiences.

So that's another idea. So to go back over those when it comes to collecting emails, make it fun, add value, you can do that with quizzes. You can do that with the pop-ups on your website to grab that information, make sure it's an irresistible offer.

You can also do that with paid ads. It targets exactly who you want to with an irresistible offer. So you're able to get them to your website with a landing page and grab those emails, give them a irresistible offer.

So I hope that you found this information valuable. And if you did, I invite you to please leave a review and share it with your fellow Spa Business Besties. If you need some help on maybe thinking of some offers, I am happy to help you.
