Overcoming Fear and Finding Confidence as a Solo Spa Boss
Welcome to the Spa Business Building Podcast, where we're diving in and having real conversations about all the things that are helping us attract clients and build thriving businesses as solo beauty and wellness professionals. I'm your host, Tiffany Nodolny. I'm a licensed esthetician, massage therapist, and spa business mentor to solo spa bosses who are ready to take their business from surviving to thriving.
So whether you're a new solo spa boss or seasoned, this podcast is for you. Welcome back Solo Spa Bosses to the Spa Business Building Podcast. I want to start off this episode by saying that it takes a lot of courage to follow your dreams and start your solo spa business, and I am so proud of you for following your dreams.
You didn't let fear hold you back. So my question for you is, why are you letting fear hold you back from being visible, from finding clients, and from growing your business? Now, I totally get the fears that come along with starting and running a business.
The fear of failure, the self-doubt, the what ifs, the fear of making the wrong decisions and worrying about what you're doing in your business. So if you have a fear of visibility, you're afraid of what people might think of you, what if you don't know everything, what if someone knows more than you? I'm going to tell you, there's always going to be someone that doesn't like you.
Just remember that it's not any of your business what someone else thinks of you, and you can't control what people think of you. And there's always going to be somebody who knows more than you. But if you just have that 10% advantage, just a little bit more knowledge than someone else, then you can be the expert in that field, in that subject.
If you have this fear of rejection, which most of us do, that fear of what if I put myself out there and they say no? What if they never book? That is a very real fear.
Putting yourself out there, that fear of visibility, what if they say no? It can happen. It's always a possibility.
It's always going to be a possibility. And you are not alone in your fears. I've been there and even the most experienced and passionate Solo Spa Bosses can have these same feelings.
But we can't let fear hold us back and sabotage our thoughts and our businesses. Staying stuck in fear doesn't allow us to grow and thrive. We have to step into that fear, punch it in the face, step over it and push ourselves forward.
So today's episode, I'm sharing a few tips on overcoming fear in our business and finding confidence to thrive as Solo Spa Bosses. So what is fear anyways? Fear is that uncomfortable emotion and it's caused by the belief that something bad will happen from doing an action.
And what it really comes down to is the fear of the unknown. You aren't exactly sure what results you will get when doing this thing, so it causes you fear and anxiety. And oftentimes, our fear also comes from lack of confidence in ourselves.
So we have fear because we are unsure of the outcome, but we also have fear because we don't trust ourselves in knowing what we think we should know. We have no confidence and we just have so much self-doubt. So overcoming fear means creating a vision for yourself so you know what your results are going to be and building confidence in yourself so that you can face your fears.
So tip number one for overcoming your fears, what I, how I believe is it's all about the mindset, really, reframing your thinking around fear itself. Turning your self-doubt into positive self-talk, replacing negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Telling yourself, today I feel worthy.
Today I will accept all the wonderful things in this life. Today I am confident. Today I will face my fears and build a thriving business.
It's all about being able to visualize the outcome that you desire, but also being able to pivot when things change or the outcome is different. So knowing where you want to go, what your goals are, having a plan can help you feel more at ease, more confident in what your steps are going to be, because then you don't have that fear of what the unknown is. You have a clear plan ahead of you, the clear steps of where to take your business, what you want your goals to be.
So that helps you to take the fear and anxiety, the fear of the unknown. It's also about reframing your failure, your fear of failure. So start thinking of failure as an opportunity and not like a personal failure.
It's an opportunity to learn and grow instead of a direct hit or reflection on yourself. It took Thomas Edison around a thousand tries to create a working light bulb. A thousand times to not get it, take a different approach, try again, not get it.
It's a rinse and repeat, but doing something a little bit different the next time to get further ahead. A thousand tries, and he still kept at it and eventually created a working product that we all benefit from. It's amazing.
A light bulb. So you have to think what can you learn from your experience? What can you learn from that?
No. Can you tell yourself, how can I improve from this? No.
How can I improve my approach to reaching out to potential clients or past clients or introducing myself to a boutique owner? How can you improve your messaging? How can you make it more clear?
If you view each no or attempt as valuable feedback, instead of a direct hit to yourself, then you're reframing your mindset. If you can also view it as practice, and the more practice that you get, the better that your approach will be the next time. Overcoming Fear also comes down to having clear messaging and clear branding, because it's so important to be super clear on your brand and your message.
Because you're trying to build that no like and trust with your clients, with your potential clients, and having a strong no like and trust, strong connections and converts potential clients into actual paying clients. So, when you are clear on who you are serving, who you are, who your business is, who you serve, the perfect person that you want in your business. When you are clear, so very clear on all of these things, you can have better messaging and a better approach.
So, when you know exactly who your ideal client is, you know the problems that they want solved. You are offering the services that solve their problems. You are able to clearly identify and communicate to your perfect person, the potential client, what services that you offer and how it solves the problems that they want.
Okay, so how are we going to put all of this together so that we can overcome fear, build confidence, and be badass solo spa bosses? So first, it comes down to having a clear brand, knowing exactly who your ideal client is so you can clearly communicate what it is that you offer to help them solve their problems. You are then going to create a clear plan, visualize the outcome that you want.
You want to generate new leads, you want to attract new clients, and how are you going to do that? You are going to go introduce yourself to businesses that align with the business that and the services that you offer. You're a massage therapist, and you are going to go and reach out to estheticians, solo estheticians in your area.
You are going to explain exactly who you serve, how you can help them, and you are going to create a collaboration, a partnership with that business to generate leads into your business from their business and from your business into their business as well. And you are going to reframe your mindset when it comes to putting yourself out there. When that self-doubt creeps in, you're going to tell yourself how amazing you are and that you are going to get shit done.
You're not going to let fear stand in your way because if you are not able to grow your business and gain that financial stability, you're not going to have a business. If you are not able to attract clients into your business, you will not have a business you cannot sustain. So you have to do this.
You're going to punch fear in the face. Stop letting it take over and take back your business. Have a solid 2025 and you are going to rock the shit out of it as a solo spa boss.
So that's it. That is my motivation for you. I want to see you succeed in 2025.
I want to give you valuable steps that you are able to implement in your business right away. So I try to keep this short and sweet, just a few steps. I want you to reframe your mindset and I want you to do this right now.
Overcome your fears and keep going. That is it, my friend. Until next time, stay fabulous, stay inspired and happy business building.
