Welcome back to the Spa Business Building Podcast. I'm Tiffny, your host. If we haven't met yet, I am the creator of Spa Business Building.
I am Solo Spa Bosses over on Instagram, and I help solo beauty and wellness professionals attract more clients, boost their bookings, and build a thriving business. Today, we're talking about one strategy that you can implement to help you attract more clients. And that is really about being more visible online.
And that doesn't just mean on social media, but when you are visible through search, making sure that your Google profile is enhanced has everything that it needs, so that it is giving the right information for when people are searching for your services in their area. So when it comes to your Google Business profile, I hope that you already have one set up. This is really how people are going to find you in searches.
So when someone goes into Google search, Google takes all the information that you have input into your Google Business profile, as well as your website, that's where SEO comes in, and it shows it to the person who is searching. So if you want to make sure that you are being seen, and that you want to improve your local ranking on Google, here are some tips that you can start implementing to help with that ranking. When someone searches for a business or place near their location, they'll find local results across Google in places like Maps and Search.
For example, you can probably find local results in your search for Italian restaurant from your mobile device, from your cell phone. And what happens is Google tries to show the kind of nearby restaurants that you'd like to visit. To improve your business's local ranking, you can use Google Business Profile to claim and update your business information.
And you may find that your business doesn't show up for relevant searches in your area. And to maximize how often users find your business in local search results, you'll want to ensure that your business information in your business profile is accurate, complete, and engaging. So first off, you will want to make sure that you enter complete data.
Local results favor the most relevant results for each search. So businesses with complete and accurate information are easier to find and to match with the right searches. So you're going to want to make sure that you keep your information up to date as your business changes.
Make sure that you've entered complete business information in your business profile so users know what you do, where you are, and where they can visit. So you'll want to provide information like, but not limited to your physical address, your phone number, category, attributes. You'll also want to verify your location.
You'll want to do this so that you're more likely to show up in local search results across the Google products like Maps and Search. You want to make sure that you are up to date on your business hours. So when are you open?
When are you closed? Are you open for holidays, closed for holidays? Accurate hours.
Let shoppers know when you are available and gives them confidence that your business will be open when they arrive. And I know that's a little bit harder, especially if you work by appointments only. So I have a range of times that I'm typically open.
You will also want to make sure that you manage and respond to reviews. Responding to reviews that users leave about your business. When you reply to reviews, it shows that you value your customers and their feedback.
High quality, positive reviews from your customers can improve your business visibility and increase the likelihood that a shopper will visit your location. You also want to make sure that you're adding photos. You want to showcase your goods and services and tell the story of your business.
So add photos to your business profile, because accurate and appealing pictures may also show your customers that your business offers what they're searching for. If you run a retail or you have retail in your business, you can turn online customers into in-store shoppers by automatically showcasing your in-store products on your business profile. So if you're wondering how Google determines the local rankings, local results are based primarily on relevance, distance, and prominence.
So a combination of these factors helps Google to find the best match for searches. For example, their algorithm might decide that a business that's further away from their location is more likely to have what you're looking for than a business that's closer, and therefore rank it higher in local results. So if you have your profile complete, then you're not being missed if there are people searching for the products and services that you have.
So the relevance refers to how well a local business profile matches what someone is searching for. When you have complete and detailed business information to help Google better understand your business and match your profile to relevant searches. Distance considers how far each potential search result is from the location term used in a search.
If a user doesn't specify a location in their search, then Google will calculate the distance based on what they do know about the location that person is at. So prominence refers to how well known a business is. So some places are more prominent in the offline world, and search results try to reflect this in local ranking.
For example, famous museums, landmarks, hotels, or well known store brands are more likely to be prominent in local search results. Prominence is also based on information that Google has about a business from across the web, like links, articles, directories. Google review count and review score factor into local search ranking.
More reviews and positive ratings can improve your business' local ranking. That's why it's important to ask for reviews. Your position in web results is also a factor.
So search engine optimization, SEO, best practices apply. Here's a tip that Google gives. There's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google.
They do their best to keep the search algorithm details confidential to make the ranking system as fair as possible for everyone. So that is good to know. So what it comes down to, my friend, is making sure that you have your Google business profile complete with physical address, phone number, your photos, the location.
You want to make sure that you are responding to all reviews, even negative reviews, because it shows that you are human. You want to make sure that you're putting your products in the product images, list your services, put a description. All of this helps you to rank better when people are searching for your services and products in your area.
You want to make sure that you are responding to all reviews, even negative reviews, because it shows that you are human. Are you a solo beauty or wellness entrepreneur feeling overwhelmed trying to grow your practice? Do you struggle to find new clients?
