I'm Tiffny Nadolny, your host of the Spa Business Building Podcast. I'm a licensed esthetician, massage therapist, and solopreneur in my day spa. With nearly two decades of experience in the beauty and wellness industry, I've learned a few things about building a career and maintaining longevity.

Outside of the treatment room, I'm a wife, mom, to the human and fluffy kind, plant enthusiast, and book lover. Join me while I share my experiences and insight on attracting clients, maintaining and building a thriving business while achieving work-life balance. So whether you're a new solo spa boss or seasoned, this podcast is for you.

Welcome back to the Spa Business Building Podcast. I'm Tiffny, your host. If we haven't met yet, I help solo beauty and wellness professionals attract clients and build a profitable business.

But what does that mean?

So I help solo beauty and wellness professionals learn how to market their business and make a profit. So when we go to school, we are basically learning the basics of our skill. And I feel like we aren't really taught a lot about business, and that's just something that we have to learn on our own.

Because when we're in school, where there's just a small amount of time that we need to learn the skills necessary for us to become licensed in the state that we reside in, everything else comes later. Learning how to start and grow and build a profitable business usually isn't part of our curriculum when we go to school. I teach professionals how to build that profitable business.

So when we become business owners, we are also essentially becoming the CEOs of our own business. And a CEO is the chief executive officer. Basically, in any business, a CEO is the highest ranking officer, and when we are solo business owners, we are the CEO of our business.

We are the chief decision maker, essentially. So those skills of making the decisions, making a profitable business, the strategy, the finances, all of those things, unless you have experience or maybe you had a past career before you decided to be calm and esthetician, hairstylist, massage therapist, whatever it is, maybe you have experience from a past job career that can bring you into the solo spa boss, but usually that's not the case, and it's something that we have to learn for ourselves. So I am teaching solo spa bosses how to be their own CEOs.

So let's dive in to the topic of mentorship and community and why it's important and why I feel like every solo spa boss needs a coach, needs a mentor, and needs a community. So mentors are great for guidance and expertise. Mentors can offer invaluable advice based on their experience, helping you avoid common pitfalls and make informed decisions.

So when you are seeking out a mentor, I highly recommend that you choose someone who has the skill and experience.

Experience is everything.

They don't need a certification to coach or teach. Sometimes I think that just comes naturally, but they do need the experience. So choose someone that has been where you are and is now in a place that you want to be, and someone that can teach you how to effectively get there, can help you build a road map and strategy that plan on how to get there and reach your specific goals.

Finding someone who can do this, that's the most important thing when it comes to finding a mentor. You want them to have that expertise. They've been where you are, and they are now where you want to be.

They can also help you build your skills. So if you're seeking a mentor based on your skills as a professional, when it comes to massage, aesthetics, hair, whatever that is, they can help you identify the areas that you need improvement. So seeking a skills mentor can be very important for your business.

Whether you're solo or you're working for someone else, finding a mentor to help you hone those skills is key in success, to help you grow whichever direction that you want to grow. You can also find a mentor to help you build your business skills. So if you are a solo spa boss or you want to be a solo spa boss, finding someone who can teach you those skills and help you to enhance them, improve them, and tailor them to build your business into success, whatever that means for you, that's very important as well.

They are great for career navigation. They can help you set clear goals. Because let me tell you, in my experience, and you may experience this as well, but it's hard to see the forest through the trees.

So that means, like, it's hard to see inside your business, and what's going on the bigger picture when you're inside of it. But taking a step back, that's why it's always easy to maybe have an input or suggestions for others because you're on the outside looking in. So sometimes it's hard to see inside of our business and what we're doing wrong.

We can say, trying all the things, I'm doing all the things and I'm just not getting anywhere because we're inside of it. So someone who can step outside, take a look inside can really be beneficial. They can help you then create that strategic plan.

They can help you not only navigate the industry that you're in, but your business. I also really think that having that mentorship can help boost your confidence because sometimes it's hard, just like I said before, it's hard to see when you're inside of it. Someone else use you as successful, and a lot of times we do not view ourselves as successful.

But that mentor can help show you where you are, where you came from, where you're going, and really boost your confidence by showing you that you are successful. But you have to remember that one person's success may not be the same as someone else's success. We all value and you may not be the same for someone else.

Someone may say, success to me is earning $150,000 a year. Someone else may say, success to me is having a schedule that allows me time freedom. I can work when I want to, take off when I want to, and be there on the weekends with my kids, and after school to pick them up.

That may be your definition of success, and your mentor can help you see that and build that, and help you boost your confidence, especially when facing challenges or uncertainties. Sometimes we may not know how to navigate those, and having a mentor who can sit down and help us look at them from a different perspective can be so valuable. Now next, let's talk about having that network or community.

When it comes to building a place or having a place where you can go for support and encouragement, I just think that when we become solo spa bosses, it can be a little lonely because sometimes we don't always have the support that we need from our families. And maybe they are super supportive, which a lot of times they are, but maybe they just don't understand. So it's hard to talk to, or it's hard to bounce ideas off of them.

So it's great to have a place, a community where you can get that. You can build collaboration. So sometimes having a community where you can network and collaborate with others for potential like partnerships and referrals, things like that.

You can even do it virtually. Getting in front of other people's audiences can help grow your own business. So if you have someone that you can partner with, who is in line with your business, but not doing the exact same thing, that can really help benefit your business.

Also, that knowledge sharing. Having a community can allow you to learn from others and stay up to date on trends and sharing your own expertise. For me, it feels really great to know that I'm helping someone because I've been there and I can share my experiences and like my mishaps and being able to guide them from things that I have had experience with just makes me feel so great, especially knowing that I'm helping someone else in their business.

Community also builds support. When you have that, it can help, especially when with a group of like-minded professionals who understand the unique challenges of the industry. It is just so rewarding.

You can also create that business growth, like I said, with collaboration. When you're getting in front of other people's audiences, that can potentially lead to new clients and new opportunities for your business. So those are the reasons why I think that mentorship and community are so important.

And that is why I have created the Solo Spa Bosses Society. It is a place for mentorship and community guidance and support to learn tangible, actionable steps to start implementing in your business. So you can attract your perfect clients, grow your business, and make a profit.

Because we are doing this as a hobby. We all want to make money. We all want to live the life that we envision and dream of.

So I've created this space where I can bring together like-minded professionals to learn and share their knowledge and support each other and encourage each other and also learn everything that you need to build and grow your business. Learn how to market, learn the systems, learn the strategies, and you will be on your way to successful business. So I hope that you found this episode to be valuable, informative.
